Conditions: Sunny bluebird skies, warmer temps, perfect corduroy, chunder, left over powder, and zero wind.
Flex: This is your standard middle of the road park flex. Slightly softer tips and a stiffer mid section where the camber zone is. There’s a decent amount of torsional flex which gives the board some play.
Stability: There’s a little chatter in the tips at high speeds but you don’t fully feel it under foot. In really rutted out terrain the board does get knocked around a bit so keep those knees bent. Overall it’s a lively board.
Ollies: The camber section loads up with a tiny amount of work and is highly reactive. This makes the board very poppy especially when you add to it the flex point where the rocker meets the camber which acts like a springboard for this deck.
Pop On Jumps: This board is fully at home boosting off a lip, tranny, hip, etc. The snap in this board is accentuated by the natural wu of the lip.
Butterability: The camber fights you a little bit right where it meets the rocker zone so you have that going for it. Otherwise those rocker sections create an optimal sweet spot that locks in and holds the press if you keep your weight out over it.
Jibbing: It takes a little more work to do a nose or tail press and that pointy tip will throw you off a bit. If you’re a little cock eyed on a feature it may also hook up. Otherwise know that you have to land on the sweet spot for a nose or tail press to fully feel it lock in. When sideways the camber section takes over and hugs the feature.
Carving: This board can turn. You do have to load the camber section up to engage the board and it will dig in and feel locked when on edge. It’s nimble enough from edge to edge which makes it very reactive in a pinch when you’re dodging people. Short tight quick carves to medium hard carves are its strong suit. When you get crazy aggressive you can lay it over but you’ll hit a wall with it and not have the drive off the tail to push it out of a deep carve.
Rider in Mind: Freestyle focused all mountain guy that wants some camber between the feet.
Personal Thoughts: With DWD switching factories there’s always a bit of a change in how the boards ride. I will say the Wizard Stick feels far more reactive and snappy than the previous versions I’ve ridden. It snaps more aggressively and feels a bit more lively especially underfoot. Overall though the shaping and ride is similar to its predecessors and this feels like the right evolution in its construction.
