Board: Capita Mega Merc

Size: 157

Camber Option: Resort V2. Camber to the end of the inserts, then reverse camber from there out to the tips. It’s camrocker.

Bindings: Rome Black Label

Stance: 21.5 Wide 15 Negative 12 Goofy

Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10

My Weight: 200lbs

Resort: Copper Mountain

Conditions: Mostly bluebird skies with the occasional cloud, moderate winds at times, warmer temps, a light dusting of fresh snow on top of creamy corduroy, ice, chunder, and frozen death cookies in spots.

Flex: The overall flex of this board is just past a middle of the road all mountain flex. You do have softer tips that are accentuated due to the rocker zone then stiffen up just outside the insert packs through the middle. The torsional flex is abundant but there’s still some rigidity to it.

Stability: This board has a lot of kinetic energy in it and feels real reactive. This means it’s very lively and you will notice that you do get chatter in this board that somewhat subsides underfoot but changes how the board reacts. In real choppy terrain it pushes through most everything but you do want to keep those knees bent.

Ollies: As mentioned this board is reactive so when you load it up it instantly rebounds right back to its natural shape. This gives you a real snappy pop and helps you boost off sidehits, rollers, and cat track gaps or over slow signs. The camber profile overall is easy to engage and takes little effort. What’s nice is that when the camber section is loaded up it uses that reverse camber section in the tips like a spring board.

Pop On Jumps: This thing can send a jump with ease and little effort. You can boost off the lip on anything from small, medium, or large jumps and have it get you in the air. That reactive nature coupled with the load of the camber and the shape of the lip just all work together in conjunction to get you airborne.

Butterability: So with the softer tips and rocker you have this platform for buttering around that is relatively easy to engage. When you have your weight balanced out over the tips there’s a little fight from the camber/middle of the board but what that really equates to is more snap out of whatever you’re doing.

Jibbing: This board can handle some jibbing. The camber in the middle is nice for locking into a slide and while it slightly cradles the feature it retains the stiffness to not clap out. Doing a nose or tail press you do want to make sure you get your weight out towards the tips, even with the rocker section, it still requires you balance your weight out there to lock in. Once you do it holds the press with some fight which can cause you to slap down so be prepared for that. This board retains its snap out of the tips so you can get pop off the end of the feature.

Carving: This board has a smooth and nimble edge to edge transmission that retains power out of the tail. When you get this board on edge with the camber zone ending more underfoot you can ankle steer for subtle movements with ease. When railing a hard carve you engage outside the front foot but transition your weight to inside the rear foot to use the center of the boards flex with its camber to push off the tail and give you a lot of power to slingshot out of turns. Short quick turns or deep hard carves this board has you covered. On edge you feel secure and locked in which can be attributed to Capita’s Death Grip technology.

Rider in Mind: Hard charging all mountain freestyle rider.

Personal Thoughts: The best way to sum up this board is that it’s an amalgamation of three other boards from Capita. It’s the Super DOA in terms of technology, it feels like the 2021 Black Snowboard of Death on edge, and retains characteristics of the Mercury. This thing is a killer ride that is highly reactive but yet still predictable. It’s a board for the Rad Dad that’s moved on past the regular Mercury but doesn’t want to go to the BSOD fully and the Super DOA is just a little more than they want.

Comparable Boards: Libtech Ejack Knife, Jones Ultra Mountain Twin, Salomon Ultimate Ride
