Cheapest area…

So I’m planning to move to Van city in may, and I know that the cost of living is really expensive there. So my question to all the Van city forum members is: what is the cheapest area to live in that is fairly close to the downtown area, and is easily accessible by public transportation? I’m also planning to move in with 4-5 people so the accommodation has to be a decent size
