Loveland Ski Area is vying once again to be the first ski area open in North America, a title which they have claimed for the past several years. According to Snowmaking & Trail Maintenance Manager Eric Johnstone, the snowguns began firing away on September 24, in anticipation of opening as soon as possible. While daytime temperatures in the 50s and 60s have been unable to sustain snowmaking operations, nighttime temps have been hovering below freezing, allowing the resort to build a solid base at lower elevations
