One of the bigger storms of the year hammered Brighton Resort right before the fourth annual ThirtyTwo Day yesterday. Brighton typically gets 500 inches of snow each season, and the latest storm dropped about 32 inches just in time for ThirtyTwo Day’s Helltrack Banked Slalom and Rail Jam contests. The 2012 Legendary Banked Slalom went off again for the 27th year in a row! The GNU team showed up and kicked some ass on the course bringing home at least 4 duct tape trophies! Thanks to the Howats, all of the LBS crew, racers and spectators. Photo Gallery: “This year’s course was a little rough, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen worse at the LBS! There was a little of everything from top to bottom… from blue ice to sloppy slush, and it was snowing by the time we took our final runs. The course will consist of a series of banked berms, wave-shaped quarterpipes, a right and left breaking spine and finishing wave bowl. Competitors will be judged, by the likes of Gerry Lopez, on Big Wave surfing standards; control, speed and power.

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, ME (March 2, 2011) – Snowboarders will return to the roots of their sport and get a chance to test their skills against an Olympic champion on March 19, when Sugarloaf and two-time Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott host the first ever Sugarloaf Banked Slalom. Based on the model of the Mt. Baker Legendary Banked Slalom, the Sugarloaf Banked Slalom will be a snowboard-only, open registration event, which will see snowboarders young and old compete on a winding course of banked turns down Sugarloaf’s storied terrain

At our recent trip to Keystone, the ski/ride school had this really neat feature. Off to the side of their bunny hill they built a little „mini-run” with S-shaped banked turns that the kids could ride down and it literally forced them to initiate turns so that they could go down this thing.
