Conditions: A couple inches of fresh snow on perfect corduroy with no winds and a mix of light clouds and blue skies.
Flex: This board comes in at just under a middle of the road twin flex. You have a bit more play in the tips then it progressively stiffens up through the mid section. There’s a lot of torsional flex which makes this board really playful. Overall it comes in just below middle of the road.
Stability: This board is moderately stable, in really choppy terrain you’re going to feel it. Vibrations resonate back underfoot from the tips especially if they’re flapping hard from charging through uneven terrain. It’s one of those boards that’s stable to a point, but not enough to make it a damp ride. It’s very lively.
Ollies: This board has some pop to it. You do engage it more like a skateboard instead of loading it up which is nice for those last minute quick pops.
Pop On Jumps: I’ll just be honest the jump line was crowded and I wasn’t feeling like waiting around for it to clear out or to see if my knees could handle it. I went and just launched some groomed out sidehits instead. It did well on them, but I can tell you from the flex and ride of this board that anything over the 25 to 30 foot range will be pushing it.
Butterability: The tips have an immense sweet spot that just locks in and lets you press as hard as you want. There isn’t a lot of rebound out of them which is nice. Slow or high speed butters you’re golden on this deck.
Jibbing: This board locks into presses and slides with ease. It’s one of those boards that has just enough rebound to not feel soggy on a rail but isn’t overwhelming and forcing you to push it hard to stay locked in.
Carving: Rolling from edge to edge this board gets the job done. Short tight quick setup carves are the strong suit with this board. I won’t deny that. On long drawn out hard carves the torsional flex takes over and you end up over-steering the board. It’s one of those decks that you have to know where the limitations are otherwise you’re going to have a bad time going from edge to edge in a deep carve.
Rider in Mind: Freestyle focused guy that wants a slight below middle of the road twin.
Personal Thoughts: Was this a bad board? No. Was it a great mind blowing board? No. This is one of those decks that just comes in as being OK and not mind blowing. In the past I loved the Regent as a solid all mountain freestyle board, this is not on that level, it’s more freestyle focused which comes from the Half Breed. It’s a jib board you won’t necessarily over power but it will get the job done.
