Conditions: Early morning grey bird into mid day bluebird with warmer temps, spots of wind, and snow that was chundery but fast.
Binding Adjustability: The adjustability is pretty straight forward. Flip cams on the toe and heel so you can shorten or lengthen the straps. 3 settings for highback rotation. A block you can twist to minimize or maximize forward lean. Then you have the drive plate, which you can swap out with other ones for softer or stiffer feel under foot as well as more or less dampening.
Straps: The heel strap is a two piece construction with the injected EVA and plastic. It has a solid contour to match a boots instep. The toe strap is a bit firmer and the cut out that goes over the toe box is designed to fit more of a pointy toe than a snub nose.
Ratchets: These are smooth and easy to use. There’s a specific clicking noise that you can’t hear with other ratchets, why am I mentioning this? Because Kevin keeps mentioning this. The heel ratchet has a one finger quick release. The toe ratchet is a press down release yet there’s a little nub that sticks out that looks like it should be a release tab.
Highbacks: The highback has some moderate flex to it. You can drive into it and it will rebound and not fold over. The forward lean block is easy to use and could possibly be one of the easiest ways to quickly change your lean settings.
Binding Flex: The overall flex of the binding is stiffer. A lot of this comes from the drive plate which you can swap out. I would say it comes in just past middle of the road all mountain flex. There’s solid lateral flex so you can tweak and drive your board.
Ride: The ride is super damp. This board does such a great job of dissipating chatter.
Rider in Mind: All mountain rider that wants a slightly stiffer binding.
Personal Thoughts: The size run on these is weird, this binding was a bit bigger for my size 10. Ideally a medium would have fit better. The straps are solid and just cup a boot so well. And yes I will make yet another statement about the ratchet sound, it’s unique. The drive plates are nice and the fact you can swap them out makes this binding more versatile.
