Board: Soulstick Pocket Rocket

Size: 165

Camber Option: Directional camrocker. More rocker in the nose, minimal camber under foot, tiny rocker in the tail.

Bindings: K2 Indy

Stance: 21.5 wide 15 negative 12 Goofy

Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10

My Weight: 195lbs

Resort: Copper Mountain

Conditions: 2 feet of fresh, a mix of overcast and blue skies, colder to warmer temps causing the blower pow to turn to hot pow, and mild wind.

Flex: This board is actually soft for its size and shape. What you get is an insanely soft nose that stiffens up right before the front insert pack and then stays at that flex all the way through the tail. There’s very little torsional flex. If I had to classify the flex it’s a slightly softer than middle of the road powder flex.

Stability: That width just gives you insane stability under foot. The nose is super soft and the one thing I noticed was that at high speeds it would slap into the ground. I’m talking drastic pterodactyl style flapping. In really rutted out terrain this board would get bucked around if the snow was firm or scraped off.

Ollies/Pop: All the snap comes off the back foot and is 100% rider initiated. So hopefully you didn’t skip leg day.

Butterability: Didn’t happen.

Carving: Oh my dear god this board was so complicated to carve with. First off you have a board that’s wider than a Mack truck. Then you have an effective edge and contact point that changes how you initiate turns with this. I’ve never been so scared to ride a groomer in my life. It took me multiple runs to figure out that you steer this board from inside the front foot and off the back foot. Almost like you’re riding a slalom skateboard. You need to get cruising before you engage the edge and initiate a turn. Then once you do that you’re basically rocking back and forth while heaving your weight into the camber to keep it on edge. This board is no resort powder friendly in the slightest if you have to ride a groomer to get around to get the goods.

Rider in Mind: Someone that is going to ride nothing but untracked pow.

Personal Thoughts: Fuck this board gave me a work out and a half. I haven’t been this destroyed from riding a snowboard in years. My abs, quads, calves, and hips hurt. You have to be so aggressive with this board to get it to turn on a groomer. In deep snow it’s a fucking dream, don’t let me dissuade you from that. The tail sinks, the nose rolls up on top with no effort, but anything that isn’t at least 4 inches deep you’re working WAY TOO HARD for what you get. This board is 100% a novelty stick for someone chasing pow.
