Location: Loveland Ski Area

Conditions: Sunny bluebird skies, zero wind, warmer temps, and late day preseason chop, chunder, ice, and firm snow.

Binding Adjustability: So lets get right to it you have flip cams on the toe and heel strap to lengthen them on the fly, there’s three placements on the frame for moving the heel strap, and you have pushpin placement for the toe strap. There’s the forward lean block which gives you 4 different positions to set it in and adjust the angle of the highback. You can rotate the highback if that’s your thing. And finally you have the heelcup which is fully adjustable. As an added bonus you can always swap out the drive plates too.

Straps: The straps are very minimal with how thick they are and are built with a rubber/nylon composite that wraps around your boot well. These really can take on any shape you want. They do their job of contouring to the boot without creating any pinch points and lock you in. The Toe strap can go over the toe or over the top depending on how you want to do it.

Ratchets: The ratchets work well enough. I did have a slight issue with my back foot feeding into it accurately every time which could be the fact it’s a demo binding or it could just be strap placement, but it was an issue I was aware of. What I don’t like is that while the heel ratchet has a one finger release the toe does not so you have to press down to release it which seems counter intuitive. When tightening them down they did their job and climbed well, there was no slipping.

Highbacks: The highback has a solid shape that cradles the back spine of your boot and it’s moderately stiff so you can drive into it. The forward lean block is nice for quick adjustment of your forward lean if that’s your thing.

Binding Flex: The overall flex of this binding is just a bit past middle of the road. It does its job and lets you drive hard when you want but you can be laid back if you need to. It has great power transmission from toe to heel.

Ride: The nice thing about this binding is that while it does a good job of dampening the micro vibrations that cause foot fatigue it doesn’t deaden the ride.

Rider in Mind: All mountain guy that does it all.

Personal Thoughts: This binding is solid, all the adjustability is straight forward so you don’t sit around questioning how to do anything. What I don’t like is how the heel cup screws also hold the heel straps and highback, this makes it a bit sloppy when adjusting and as that’s an area of stress it can loosen up over time. The straps while minimal and contour well won’t be for everyone with how they’re made as there’s no extra padding. Overall it’s a solid binding and it gets the job done for just about anything you throw at it.
