Conditions: Six plus inches of snow in spots, soft corduroy, a storm rolling in, moderate to cool temps, fresh corduroy, chunder, and rocks.
Flex: This board is on the softer side of directional freeride making it closer to a middle of the road flex than a full on plank. what you will notice is that it has a full directional flex meaning softer nose to stiffer tail with a little bit of torsional give to it.
Stability: With the abundance of the stiffer flex being from inside the front insert pack back to the tail you get a stable ride underfoot. It’s only in the nose that you notice any instability and you have to be charging into uneven terrain with a blatant disregard for your life.
Ollies/Pop: With this board being traditional camber you do have to load it up aggressively to get it to pop. Even when you do it’s not the snappiest thing I’ve been on and takes more effort to get normal results from it. Basically go fast, muscle it, and pray to the altar of snowboarding that you’re going to clear what’s in front of you.
Butterability: This is such a chore. Between the shape of the board, set back, long nose, and flex you’re just working harder to get this board to butter. There’s nothing wrong with that, just be aware of how much effor it takes.
Carving: With the width of this board it will take you a little bit to get used to how you transition from edge to edge. It’s a bit slow when you’re not going mach 10. When you get up to speed it becomes a lot easier to transition and lay this thing over. There is a lot of power out of the tail so when you do drive your knee into the center of the board to get it to turn you end up with a deep hard aggressive carve. This board is best suited for mellow carves at slow speeds and hard aggressive ones at ripping speeds.
Rider in Mind: Pow chasing freerider that loves camber.
Personal Thoughts: Man this thing was wide. I mean WIDE. Normally even with wider boards I don’t really notice that width but when you couple it with camber and its sidecut it just sticks out as taking a bit more effort to get it on edge. Overall it’s a fun board for pow especially the kind I was riding where you’re just plowing through it and doing more chunder busting than surf turns. It’s a stable ride and if you love camber you’ll understand why and how it flexes the way it does.
