Conditions: A mix of high visibility grey skies, pockets of blue, and clouds with cold temps. There was ice, chunder, death cookies, dust on crust, and perfect corduroy.
Binding Adjustability: This is about as basic as it comes. Flip cams on the straps, forward lean adjustment, and the bushings underfoot which come in soft, medium, and hard.
Straps: The heel strap is that thick foam that prevents any material from bunching up. It contours to your instep and that’s about all there is to say about it. The toe strap has an immense cut out so it will fit most boot shapes and lock in.
Ratchets: These things are smooth like butter. They climb well, lock in great, and release just as superbly. Basically they do their job. Only issue I have is a lack of a one finger release tab on the toe ratchet.
Highbacks: This is soft and flexible. You notice it’s there but if you’re looking for any rigidity from it think again. The other thing to take note is there’s a little bit of natural forward lean in it.
Binding Flex: Overall this is a super soft binding by Now’s standards. You can feel that right away when you flex into it whether toe to heel or laterally. It just has a ton of give. The straps are soft and less rigid as well.
Ride: This rides like a first generation Now with the Hanger 1.0. That means there’s less dampening making it more lively, and it has a slightly narrower fit.
Rider in Mind: Price conscious progressing high level beginner to intermediate.
Personal Thoughts: This felt a lot like the first generation IPO that I rode however many years ago. That’s not a bad thing because at this pricepoint you do get SkateTech which is solid. Overall it’s not a binding that’s designed to wow you, it’s a binding that’s meant to be functional and get the job done for someone starting out or someone on a budget. The hanger 1.0 is a little tigher than the 2 and 3.0’s.
