Conditions: Sunny blue skies with some clouds, a little wind, warmer temps, slush, chunder, ice, and death cookies.
Binding Adjustability: There’s flip cams on the straps to lengthen or shorten them, you have the base bushings which can be swapped out for soft, medium, or hard, and finally you have the forward lean adjustment tab.
Straps: The heel strap is made of foam and contours perfectly around your boots instep. I didn’t find any pinch points or notice that with it being more forgiving that it didn’t let me drive into it. The toe strap is rubber and has a smaller cutout than others on the market, this could pose problems with some boot shapes. I did not have any issues with it.
Ratchets: These climbed well and did their job with ease. I never had any issues with them engaging and the one finger quick release on the heel worked well. I do wish that the toe ratchet had the same release as it’s a push down which seems so counter intuitive to me with how the heel works.
Highbacks: There’s a lot of give in these and you notice that when you push into them. This makes them less powerful when you drive into them but has more give when you jib and butter.
Binding Flex: The overall flex of this binding is past middle of the road. A lot of that is due in part to the Skate Tech Chassis it just takes up more space creating a bigger dead spot. Laterally it also hinders the give thus making them not flex as much.
Ride: The ride of this binding is powerful you can really drive into the toe or heel of your board with the help of the Skate Tech. It just gives more power down into the edge compared to other bindings. Laterally as the chassis takes up more space you lose lateral flex to gain more lateral drive.
Rider in Mind: The freestyle focused rider that likes a bit more power from their binding.
Personal Thoughts: The Hangar 3.0 is nice as it has a broader fit and changes the flex points of the Skate Tech so it’s further out towards the edge. You notice that right away when you’re carving. You do lose a little lateral play from this binding but gain more lateral drive which makes it nice for pushing into a carve. The straps work well and overall it’s solid. It does have a two degree canted footbed so if you have knee issues and run a narrower stance you may feel this at the end of the day, I know I did.
