Recognizing the increasing importance of highlighting women snowboarders, Vans set out to make their first all-female snowboard movie. The result is Listen to the Eyes, a tantalizing, aesthetically pleasing film that follows the powdery pursuits of backcountry badasses Hana Beaman, Leanne Pelosi and up and coming rider, Mary Rand.

Shot entirely on Kodak 16mm film by famed snowboard filmmaker, Jake Price, the essence is arty, but also chock-full of alluring pow shots, cliff drops, spins, and stylish carves. The film is inspiring and the overall vibe makes you want to snowboard.

“It was cool to have such a tight crew and to be working so closely all season for Listen to the Eyes,” said Hana of the film. “Having Mary on board was fun and rad to watch even though challenging at times. It reminded me a bit of my own entry into the backcountry. I got to relive some of my own struggles by helping her and it was great to see her grow and push herself. She brought new energy to the crew.”

The world premiere, held at House of Machines, a unique space near downtown LA, has a focus on art and motorcycles, and featured a pop-up show with art from Schoph, an ode to the late Dillion Ojo, and a rowdy set by Lee Ann Curren and LA Witch. In true LA fashion, a diverse mix of industry, snow fans, and the who’s who of snowboarding showed up to get down. With free cocktails flowing, things turned loose as everyone joined together in celebration of women’s snowboarding.

“Following up Vans’ film LANDLINE. with an all-backcountry women’s film is the coolest thing we can give to snowboarding,” said director, Jake Price. “The team really stepped it up for this project and we focused on filming in new locations that no one had been to before and that definitely paid off in unique footage. The team’s drive and skill impressed me every single day,” he continued.

To cap off the legendary night, Vans called in pizza reinforcements to make sure everyone was properly satiated with greasy late night slices of delight.

These days, snowboard premieres can sometimes feel homogenized, so cheers to Vans for hosting an event that was as refreshing and inspiring as the film they featured.

Do yourself a favor and check out the full film above.

Congrats to the crew and thanks to Vans for hosting one heck of a party… That was fun.
