This road trip, dubbed “The Rocky Mountain Skyway,” connects Snowbird and Snowbasin, in Utah, with Sun Valley, Idaho and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Skyway has 600 miles to it, and 11 total hours of road time—not including the 300 miles and five hours back to SLC from Jackson.

Rocky Mountain Skyway

Let’s start at the beginning.

Grab a full tank of gas, half a pack of jerky, your buddies, and don’t forget all your gear. It’s time to hit it. You’re on a mission from Ullr.

Here’s the plan: Start your pow-hunting road trip in Salt Lake. It’ll take 35 or so minutes up the hill to Snowbird before you head northbound to Snowbasin. Both resorts serve up pounds dry Utah fluff. Sure, each platter is a little different than the other, but like an all you can eat dessert buffet, it’s impossible to make a bad choice here. And more is always the best option.

First, send it across Snowbird’s 2,500 acres of steep and deep. Get a little grub at the Tram Club after you snowboard across the 3,000 vertical of North Baldy. Then, pull the super sneaky move by dropping into Wilbere Bowl after the Tram and Little Cloud close. Don’t forget the tasty turns off of the Peruvian and Gad 2 chairs.

Snowbasin

Unless insane snowfall cuts off the canyon, forcing you to stay, head to the Beehive State and get ready to explore every inch of Snowbasin’s 3,000 acres.

Don’t let the swanky lodges lead you to believe the snowboarding isn’t quality. The Basin is massive—six peaks, nine lifts, and 3,000 vertical feet that will make your thighs burn. DeMoisy Peak has some full-on, straight up and down chutes. Then try out Middle Bowl Cirque for some seriously steep lines and big cliffs and hot-laps.

Sun Valley

The next leg to Sun Valley will be a haul, but it’ll be worth it, thanks to old Hollywood charm, history, and world-renowned riding. Sun Valley had the world’s first chairlift…in the entire world. When you’re hungry, munch at Round House and Apples Bar & Grill for après after grabbing a guided tour of that new terrain in Cold Springs Canyon.

Since you’ll be in the heart of Idaho, which means killer views, you can bank on short lift lines and endless goods in the woods. Also be sure to check out Dollar Mountain, the all-park mini-mountain, for well… backflips. Then, grab some yummy cheeses, hot chocolate, and fill up the tank to head to your next destination.

Jackson Hole

You’ll close with Jackson Hole. The Big Red Tram, S and S, Corbet’s, waffles at the Cabin, the Air Force… Keep an eye out for Bryan Iguchi, Rob Kingwill, and Blake Paul. You know, last year the entire town lost power from too much snow. You may just burst into flames from the stoke.

No time’s better than the present. Pack your car, get your playlists ready, some good sleep, an oil change, and don’t forget your foam roller. You’re going to have a helluva trip.

So, are you ready or what? Make it all possible with The Mountain Collective Pass.
